All
Saints appoints four Choral Scholars each year - soprano, alto,
tenor and bass. The Choral Scholars sing with the choir at services
and concerts throughout the year, principally at the Sunday morning
Eucharist and Sunday Evensong. Rehearsals are held on Wedensday
evenings and prior to each service.
The
Choral Scholarships are open to students who intend to pursue a
professional career in music and are studying at an undergraduate
or postgraduate level. The Scholarship, tenable for a year in the
first instance, carries an award of £2,000, plus the opportunity
to earn a similar amount through singing weddings, funerals and
memorial services. With a total scholarship value around £4,000,
All Saints' is one of the best-funded scholarships in London.
'I
felt that All Saints was my second family,' said Amelia Whiteman,
former soprano choral scholar. 'It was lovely to be singing in the
choir at Christmas and Easter, times when family is usually around.
Especially being so far from my home in New Zealand.' After her
time at All Saints, Amelia went on to the Flanders Opera Studio
and, like several other former choral scholars, now sings professionally.
Scholars
may also use the church as a recital venue, and several have given
their finals recital programme to a very appreciative audience as
part of our ongoing Music by the Bridge concert series.
We
will next be appointing choral scholars in spring 2008 for the year
starting September 2008. To find out more or to arrange an audition,
please contact Director of Music Graeme McCullough on dom@allsaints-fulham.org.uk.
